Some of the modeling work I’ve done on Dreamwork’s Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken

Gillmans Neighborhood

All modeling done in Maya.

One of my favorite things about Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken is that the town feels like its own character. This was a huge collaboration within modeling and between the art department. It was a ton of fun to work off of amazing vis dev work, getting inspired by fellow modelers, and then be able to do some designing of my own (seen in a few of later images). Thank you to POV and Emilie Austin for creating such a creative and collaborative environment.

Antique Shop

Merman sculpt done in Zbrush. Other modeling done in Maya.

This was the first location I got to work on at Dreamworks. It was a great way to get to know the style and shape language of the film. I was responsible for set dressing and partial modeling of the space.
This was a huge collaboration with the amazing Kull Shin, Orlando Velasquez, and Sarah Vawter. Couldn't have done it without Emilie Austin, POV, and Fred Stewart.
Design by the amazing Vahe Yefremian.

UNDERWATER WORLD

History Room: Modeling done in Maya

I had a lot of fun translating the beautiful history room designs from POV in 3D. While modeling I had to take into account material, the way these assets will move in the sequence, and adding depth while keeping the silhouettes strong.

Sand dunes: Modeling done in Zbrush

For this one-off shot, we needed a quick way to add the line detail while being able to easily adjust it according to art direction and composition edits. I created a seamless pattern in Photoshop for the line detail and used that as a stamp brush in Zbrush.

Throne Room: Modeling done in Maya

In addition to modeling, I had to work out how the entire set will animate and then do a few test renders using Arnold. Each wave had to move independently.

Umibozo Statue: Character done in Zbrush. Additional modeling in Maya

Prom

Promposal and prom props: Modeling done in Maya
Had so much fun bringing these props to life and giving them a homemade feel. Promposal prop designs by Alex Puvilland. Prom decor prop designs by Yuriko Oto.

Additional Props

Some additional prop modeling. All modeling done in Maya.
